If you visited the White Island pre-2016, you might have (hazy) memories of wild nights at Space Ibiza, the self-proclaimed ‘Mecca of electronic music’. The legendary superclub closed its doors seven years ago after its lease expired, ending an almost three-decade run.
The venue reopened in 2017 under the new name of Hï Ibiza – and, last year, Space opened a restaurant-slash-bar on the other side of town – but Space, in all of its original glory, has never returned.
But if you’re a die-hard fan with a Space-shaped hole in your life, we have good news. The team behind Space Ibiza has announced the opening of Space Riccione, a new edition of the club, in spring 2024.
But don’t rush to book flights to Ibiza. The new venue won’t be opening in Spain but instead will relocate to Riccione on Italy’s Adriatic coast, a beachfront resort town easily accessible from Rimini airport.
Why Riccione? Well, it might not be as internationally renowned for clubbing as Ibiza, but Riccione does have a vibrant party scene of its own, with long-standing beach discotheques and plenty of international DJ appearances. Add to that a long stretch of sandy coastline, upmarket boutiques and beachfront restaurants serving up seafood and delicacies from the Emilia-Romagna region, and you have yourself a perfect party holiday spot.
Space announced the new venue on Instagram, revealing little other than it will be split into four areas: the Arena, Garden, Terrace and Lounge.
Owner of the Space brand Pepe Roselló said, ‘We are happy to continue 27 years of Space Ibiza history here in Riccione, an iconic place that represents entertainment.’
‘Love for music and mutual respect, the main characteristics of all our events, will also be central to this new experience, which we all believe in so much,’ he added.
So, ravers: if you want to experience the legendary superclub again, it might be time to book a trip to Italy’s Eastern Riviera.
