Be it at lunch or dinner, with friends in a restaurant or at home with a takeaway, there’s no bad time to eat pizza. And no one knows that better than the Top 50 Pizza awards.
Excitingly, this prestigious ranking has just named a Spanish chain as its first-ever non-Italian winner.
Grosso Napoletano has been awarded the gold medal for the best artisanal pizza chain on the planet, beating its third-place position from last year. It was established in 2016, and has over 40 restaurants in Spain, 4 of which are in Barcelona.
Each one is home to a genuine Neapolitan stone oven, where the pizzas are prepared without losing the Unesco Intangible Heritage of Humanity art of ‘pizzaiuolo’.
Other Spanish chains featured on the list, including locations in Barcelona, Madrid and Ibiza. While Italy missed out on the number one spot, Italian chains still dominated the top ten.
Winners were praised for their authentic approaches to pizza, including Da Michele, a (you guessed it) Neapolitan restaurant, and Big Mamma Group, the famous Parisian chain. Here's the list of all the best artisanal chains on the planet.
These are the top ten artisan pizza chains in the world
