While some of us have spent the last few weeks anticipating Christmas dinner, New Year’s Eve parties and finally setting our out-of-office, those of us who like to think we have pretty decent taste in music have been waiting eagerly for the year’s biggest bragging event: Spotify Wrapped.

Yes, it’s that magical time of year when we gather ’round our devices to reflect on our musical journey – revealing our guilty pleasures, stealthy obsessions, and that one cringe-worthy catchy song we probably wouldn’t ever listen to in public. It’s like a musical yearbook, showcasing not just the songs and artists we had on repeat, but unveiling rather a lot about our personality (did you really spend that much time listening to that ‘White Noise for Anxiety’ playlist?)

So let’s dust off those headphones, and prepare for the annual rite of passage that binds us all together in the most entertainingly awkward way possible. Here’s everything we know about when Spotify Wrapped will be dropping this year.

What date does Spotify Wrapped come out?

Mark your calendars and warm up your Instagram stories, because Spotify Wrapped 2024 is set to drop in early December. While Spotify has yet to confirm the exact date, previous years have seen the annual recap released on the last Wednesday of November or the first Wednesday in December, according to Nottinghamshire Live – eyes peeled for that notification!

How to access your personalized Spotify wrapped when it’s ready

If you have the Spotify app on your smartphone, you should receive a notification saying your Wrapped is all wrapped up for you as soon as it’s available. Open the app and there’ll likely be a banner to access the roundup.

When does Spotify Wrapped stop counting?

If you’ve already started bingeing holiday music, don’t worry – Spotify usually stops tracking your activity for Wrapped at the end of October each year. That does mean that any niche indie artists you’ve been obsessed with this month won’t make the cut either – sorry!

How to see past Spotify Wrapped

While there doesn’t seem to be a way to view old Insta-story style roundups that you get on Wrapped day, you can put ‘Spotify Wrapped’ into the app’s search bar to view playlists of your most-listened to songs from previous years.

Who were the biggest artists on Spotify in 2024?

According to Spotify Pie, the most-listened to artists so far this year, as of today, December 2, are Bruno Mars (who has more than 136 million monthly listeners), The Weeknd (118 million) and Lady Gaga (110 million), with Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande rounding out the top five.

What were the top songs and artists of 2023?

Cast your minds back to last year and you’ll remember that there was a particularly mega tour which sprung into sparkling action: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. No wonder then that by the end of 2023, Taylor Swift had claimed the crown of the most-streamed artist globally, bragging a staggering 26.1 billion streams since January 1. Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Drake and Peso Pluma round out the top five.

As for the top songs, Miley Cyrus’s Grammy-winning ‘Flowers’ topped the global charts for 2023, with 1.6 billion streams. ‘Kill Bill’ by SZA, ‘As It Was’ by Harry Styles, ‘Seven (feat, Latto)’ by Jung Kook and ‘Ella Baila Sola’ by Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma round out the top five.

Is Spotify Wrapped only for premium subscribers?

No! You don’t need to have Spotify Premium to get an overview of your year. According to Spotify’s website, ‘all you need is an account and a few hours with the songs and podcasts you love’.
